Of Counsel
Boston, MA

Edward W. Wayland, a native of the Boston area, currently resides in Cambridge.  He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Vermont Law School where he graduated cum laude and received the American Legal History Award.  While in Law School Mr. Wayland drafted and argued appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court for indigent criminal defendants, several of which resulted in published opinions or admissions of wrongdoing by the State.  He also wrote the winning brief in a landmark First Amendment case concerning the constitutionality of using school vouchers to attend a religious institution.

From 1993-1996 Mr. Wayland was an associate at a general practice firm in New York, where his practice concentration was litigation.  He represented a variety of business and individual clients as lead trial counsel in both civil and criminal matters.  He also had an active appellate practice before both state and federal courts, again winning decisions some of which became part of the published case law of New York.  He returned home to the Boston area in 1996 where he continued to focus his practice on trial work.  He was a partner in the Newton, Massachusetts, firm of McCarthy & Wayland and formed his own firm before becoming a member of Perry, Krumsiek & Jack, LLP.

Mr. Wayland has broad experience successfully representing individuals and businesses in a variety of forums.  He has represented businesses at trial and on appeal in contract claims, construction and land disputes, employment litigation, and collections.  He has obtained favorable judgments for individuals in divorce and custody trials, faulty construction litigation, wrongful termination claims and in defense of numerous criminal charges, from drunk driving to attempted murder.  His effective appellate representation is reflected in the published court decisions of three states.

Mr. Wayland is a member of the New York and Massachusetts bars, is licensed to practice before the United States District Courts for the Districts Of Massachusetts, Northern and Western New York, and is admitted by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  He has attended, on special scholarship, the National Criminal Defense College in Georgia.  Mr. Wayland is a member of the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
