Patrick J. Dolan

Mr. Dolan has a diverse commercial litigation and counseling practice, representing clients in connection with complex contract disputes, shareholder disputes, intellectual property matters, securities litigation, professional liability disputes, employment disputes, non-compete agreements, and real estate litigation.  He has tried over 30 cases in courts through out the Commonwealth, and has arbitrated and mediated in excess of 50 cases in various forums.  Mr. Dolan has served as trial counsel for public and private companies, securities broker dealers, law firms, medical professionals, insurance brokers, financial advisors, and individuals in a wide range of disputes, including matters where the claimed damages exceed $100 million.

Mr. Dolan’s Representative Litigation Matters include:

  • Representation of private equity firm in litigation involving a breach of a Confidentiality Agreement and subsequent loss one of the equity firm’s portfolio companies.
  • Defense of shareholders in close corporation in litigation brought by a former minority shareholder, who alleged that the majority shareholders had defrauded him out of his stock.  Trial resulted in a defense verdict.
  • Representation of construction company in litigation involving the “Big Dig” construction project.
  • Successful defense of law firm in malpractice actions alleging breaches of fiduciary duty and fraud.
  • Representation of insurance brokerage firm in litigation brought by its client, which had sustained a multi-million dollar fire loss.
  • Defense of securities broker-dealer in litigation involving allegations that the broker-dealer had violated federal privacy laws.   The matter was dismissed on the merits shortly before arbitration was to commence.
  • Representation of individual financial advisors and broker-dealers in FINRA arbitration claims.
  • Representation of financial advisors in expungement matters before FINRA, resulting in the elimination of all reference on the financial advisors’ records in FINRA’s Central Registration Depository that claims that had been filed against them.
  • Successful defense of fitness center in breach of contract litigation.

In addition, Mr. Dolan assists clients in corporate formation and governance matters, real estate development issues and contract negotiation.  Mr. Dolan has extensive experience counseling clients in the drafting and reviewing of securities compliance and procedure manuals, employment manuals and contracts and intellectual property agreements.

Mr. Dolan was named a “Rising Star Superlawyer” in Boston Magazine and he received his J.D. in 1993 from Boston College School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
