India Practice

As the economic relationship between India and the US expands and deepens, more and more Indian companies are either expanding their existing business in the US or establishing a presence in the U.S. market for the first time.  The common law system provides an underpinning for the legal system of each economy, but navigating the regulatory and legal barriers in the US remains a challenging task for even savvy foreign businesses.  At Perry, Krumsiek and Jack, we offer a range of expertise at a cost-effective rate to our Indian clients, allowing us to be a one-stop solution for major practice areas.

Our India practice is led by Sandhya Mehta, an Indian-born attorney licensed to practice in India as well as in several jurisdictions in the US.  Ms. Mehta has counseled numerous Indian clients with regard to their US interests.  Among her clients are several internationally known Indian companies as well as emerging businesses, representing IT, automotive, aviation, banking/ investment banking, life sciences, consumer goods and medical devices industries, among others.  Ms. Mehta began her U.S. legal career in the corporate practice at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and later worked as corporate and technology transactions counsel for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.  Prior to joining PKJ, she led the India practice at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C., a 550-attorney law firm with offices throughout the Southeast United States.

Whether a matter involves M&A/Foreign Direct Investment, Government Contracts, Litigation, IP or Technology Licensing, Outsourcing, Labor & Employment or Immigration, PKJ’s attorneys have the requisite experience to assist Indian clients.  Moreover, the firm has the bi-cultural savvy that many represent but few others can actually provide.

In addition to her experience as an Indian attorney, Ms. Mehta has relationships of long standing with leading members of the Indian bar as well as other key India service providers.  As a result, our firm is well-placed to represent clients regarding in-bound and out-bound India matters.

PKJ’s India practice is also able to help companies based in the United States enter the Indian market, whether to establish a subsidiary, market products and services, or outsource to an Indian firm.
