Intellectual Property

Virtually every business owns intellectual property, ranging from trade secrets (which include such things as business plans and customer lists) to high tech patents.  PKJ’s Intellectual Property (IP) attorneys help companies at all stages of growth properly protect valuable IP assets and maximize the benefit of those IP assets.  Our attorneys have the specialized legal expertise required to ensure that your intellectual property receives the maximum protection  provided by law and best business practices.  We also understand how IP relates to your company’s business and we can help you develop optimal legal and business strategies for using your IP to advance and achieve your business objectives.

Our attorneys provide representation on the regulatory, transactional and litigation aspects of all areas of IP law, including trademark, copyright, patent and trade secrets.  Our experience includes trademark filings, negotiating and drafting licensing agreements of all kinds, preparing non-disclosure/confidentiality and non-compete agreements and advising clients regarding related issues, and litigating patent and trademark infringement cases.  Whether you want to buy, sell, establish, defend or enforce your intellectual property rights, PKJ has the experience and expertise to help you achieve your objective.

PKJ’s IP practice is led by Sandhya Mehta and Kenneth A. Sprang in Washington, DC and Timothy J. Perry in Boston.  Ms. Mehta has had extensive transactional experience with IP issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions, licensing and Internet and e-commerce issues, while serving as in-house counsel at a major financial services company and also at prominent law firms advising clients from various industries.  Mr. Sprang has served as inside and outside general counsel to companies in the technology and other sectors, and has had substantial experience in IP licensing, trade secret, and trademark registration matters.  Mr. Perry has nearly twenty years of experience litigating a range of intellectual property cases, including patent, trademark, trade secret disputes and IP licensing disputes.  Prior to founding PKJ, Mr. Perry was the Boston managing partner of Preti Flaherty LLP, a nationally known law firm with offices throughout New England.
